Woodys Hayes is considered the greatest coach to take the role as head Coach for the Buckeyes. He lead the powerhouse from 1951 to 1978. With his determination and resilient execution he was able to help the Buckeyes secure multiple Big Ten championships and national titles in 1954, 1975, and 1968. Known for his trademark fedora and fiery sideline demeanor, Hayes was more than a coach; he was a mentor, disciplinarian, and a staunch advocate for the development of student-athletes both on and off the field. His emphasis on the "three yards and a cloud of dust" philosophy, grounded in a tenacious rushing game, became emblematic of Ohio State football during his tenure.
Urban Meyer adopted the role as head coach for Ohio State in 2012 and coached them for six strong years ending in 2018. While holding the reins in Columbus, Meyer clinched the national championshipin the inaugural College Football Playoff in 2014. Decades later, Eddie George in 1995 joined Les in his triumph. The most recent Buckeye to earn the highest award in college football was stand out quaterback Troy Smith in 2006. What could be considered as one of the most impressive accomplishments in collge football history could be Ohio States very own, Archie Griffin, winning the heisman in consecutive years. In 1974 and 1975 Archie Griffin achieved the Heisman award being the only player to do so in college football history. Ohio States ability to produce heismans at the level they do is something no other program has been able to match.
