This knitted gnome was based on the dwarf design of Jean Greenhowe in Knitted Toys. I conceived of her as the Hindu deity Kali who is a fierce deity associated with death and destruction. The doll has much of the characteristic iconography of the deity including the third eye that sees into the spiritual realm, the garland of skulls, the protruding red tongue, and her six arms.
Many folks unfamiliar with the Hindu pantheon mistake her for a demoness, but Kalli represents the kind of severe energy that sometimes is required to make drastic life changes. (Of course angelic and demonic are sometimes just a matter of perspective.)
The Kali gnome was knitted for our friend Karen.
