Coquette is a broad term for a collection of smaller aesthetics, which all focus around romanticizing the innocence and flirty nature of young adult women. Despite the reoccuring themes of age gaps, seduction of older men, and the enjoyment of girlish and sometimes childish things, coquette does not support the fetishization of minors, nor the predation upon them.
Coquette mostly focuses on fashion! Coquette is a umbrella term for a bunch of smaller aesthetics. Each one has their own spin on the idea, and focuses, here are some examples:
- Nymphet- Nymphet takes inspiration from the book written by Vladimir Nabokov "Lolita" Where the main character tries to justify his pedophillic nature by claiming his 12 year old neice is acutally into him and trying to allure him. Despite the nature, nymphet only focuses on the fashion of the girl rather than any romantization of her or her abuse. It is also refered to as Vintage American Coquette, and was popularized on tumblr in the 2014s as a way expressing the drama of growing up too fast and engaging in risque behavior as a young adult/teen.
- Dollette- Dollette has become a bit of a face for coquette. This aesthetic is full of pink, frills, bows, and pearls. Unlike other coquette aesthetics, dollette doesn't have dark origins, but they have been criticized for the focus on slim, and abled bodies due to the allure of the ballet body in the aesthetic.
Although Coquette mostly focuses on fashion, some of the different subsections have a focus on music as well.
