Where I am Today

I am an undergraduate student studying chemical technologies at University of Cincinnati College of Applied Science. I am a full time student who is employed by the University to work for the Mechanical Engineering Plastics Lab with rapid prototyping. I am working with DNA sequencing in a chemistry lab and also work part time as a translator at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers. I have the loving support of my family, friends, advisers, and co-workers in everything I do.

Growing Up

Growing up I was a middle child with a younger sister and older brother. I have lived in Cincinnati my whole life and have always been very active. While a young child, I participated in sports, theater, and church. I played soccer and softball. I was involved in school and community theater including musicals. At church I was actively involved in youth group, young adults choir, and the worship band. Iwas however, quite the scrooge saving every penny I earned as I worked every Saturday morning reffing soccer games. I loved animals and continued to dream that I would one day be a vet and help all the animals I could.

High School

In high school I no longer played sports but focused on my music instead. I played over ten instruments not including all of the percussion instruments. I played bassoon in the orchestra and tenors (drums) in the marching band. I was also heavily involved in science. My junior year I was accepted into the biotechnology program at Loveland High School. It was a thick curriculum based on biology and chemisty where a lot of advanced lab skills were learned and mastered. The senior year there was a senior project called a capstone.

Life Changing

The capstone was on Prionic Mutations mostly relating to Creutzfeltz Jakob Disease. In the beginning of my junior year, my best friend's grandfather, who was like my own, suddenly went down hill and within one month he was dead. The doctors had no idea and not until an autopsy did they discover it was Creutzfeltz Jakob Disease. For this reason, I needed answers for myself and I wanted to give their family answers that the doctors couldn't. As my research continued, I began to develop a possible compound that would prevent the mutation. That was my project and what has led me to this field. Attached is my capstone poster with my theory on the right hand side.

Goals

I have several goals for my undergraduate studies:

  • Better Study Skills
  • Better Organization
  • Better Time Management
  • By the time I graduate I would like to have at least a minor in Spanish.
  • By the time I graduate I would like to have more than one job offer waiting.
  • I would like to have a job placement outside of the country, perferably spanish speaking, and more perferably in Central or South America.
