Year-In-Review
Year 1
I think that as a whole, this has been the biggest year of personal growth for me. I had to learn how to live on my own, take tougher classes and even make new friends. Moving to college and not knowing a single person was a phenomenal experience for my personal growth. Being away from not only my parents, but my twin sister was a huge change. Not being in school together for the first time in 14 years was definitely a change. I first became great friends with my roommates, which was a fantastic way to be welcomed to my first year away from home. The bond that we quickly grew became a great support system for each other. We all had to learn how to live alone, but it was great for me to know that I was not alone on that journey. I think that the bond that we created is something that will hopefully last forever.
I think the main area of growth for me was becoming independent. I no longer had my family to help me with things that are commonly overlooked. Learning how to do everything on my own is a huge step in my life. Figuring out how to do simple things like laundry, minor household maintenance, etc. These are things that are overlooked when you are younger, but quickly become a part of your daily routine.
The best part of this change was the support system given by the University of Cincinnati. It was very comforting knowing that I had many people that are willing to help at all times. Whether it is my UHP advisor, my RA, or any of my professors, I knew that if I were to reach out at any moment, they would not only be able, but they would be willing to aid me. I love that I was able to create personal connections with some of these people, as well as other students. These students are going through a similar experience that I am, so their help is very valuable to me.
I believe that the resources that I have gained throughout my first year will be used during my remaining 4 years. My support system, especially my professors and advisors, kind of help me hold myself accountable. There are set due dates that I use to help schedule for myself, but these help me plan out what needs to happen to stay on track (this was a huge area of growth for me). I am very grateful for everyone who helped me throughout my first year and I am excited to keep in contact with all of them.
