History
The Cincinnati Subway Tunnels were constructed in the early 1900s to help people get around the city faster. Construction started in 1920 and ended in 1929 with six underground stations spanning around six miles of infrastructure and 2.2 miles of tunnels. The subway tunnels were ultimately abandoned because the construction was too costly, especially during the Great Depression and the pandemic. One of the stations is home to a fallout shelter that wouldn’t have worked because it is too small and too close to the surface. There also wasn't enough room for supplies. In recent days, people discussed finishing the construction of the tunnels but ended up forgoing it because of the price. Currently, the tunnels house a fioptics line and the Cincinnati Waterworks Line.
