ENERGY
ONE:
ANNUAL REPORT
OVERVIEW
Energy
One was first established in 1934. Our company is headquartered
in Akron,
Ohio. We provide electricity to over 2.2 million customers
in Ohio and Pennsylvania. We produced almost 70 million megawatt
hours of energy this past year.
Vision
To be a leader in the energy market and our customers' first
choice for their energy needs.
Mission
To provide affordable, high-quality services to our customers.
FINANCES
Last
year, our total revenue was over $7 billion and our net income
was almost $6 million. This was compared to $5.5 million the
year before.
Energy
One's stock is listed on the New York Stock exchange. Over
the year, our stock price ranged from 32.3 to 18.00 as compared
to the previous year when it ranged from 33.0 to 28.00.
Plant
Improvements
Last year, we spent $10 million to repair a unit at our Sammis
Plant. We replaced the air heaters and repaired the coal pulverizers.
In order to make these improvements, we had to shut the unit
down for a month. We have seen an increase in production at
the Sammis plant since these changes were implemented.
Competition
In January 2001, Ohio moved to allow competition in the electricity
market. This gives our customers more choices in selecting
their energy provider. We are ready to face this challenge
by proving to be our customers' first choice because of our
high-quality services at affordable prices.
ORGANIZATION
As
the CEO of the company, Amin Chargg, has led Energy One since
1990. Reporting to her are Eric Cohen, VP of Sales, Lotsa
Cash, Director of Finance, and Ikan Makestuf, Head of Production.
Energy
One has almost 14,000 employees working at one of our 26 locations.
Our company is shaped by the strength of our employees. In
appreciation of all their hard work, we offer great benefits
including comprehensive health care plan and stock options.
We
are proud of our safety records. Our Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) incident rate of 2/100 employees
makes us one of the leaders in industry safey.
COMMITMENT
TO THE ENVIROMENT
We
have invested $1.5 billion in new environmental technologies
over the last 10 years. As a result, we have reduced emissions
of nitrogen oxides by 60% and sulfur dioxide by 57% across
all our plants.
Despite
these reductions, the Environmental Protection Agency has
filed legal action against one of our plants located in Sammis,
Ohio, right near our headquarters in Akron. Their claim is
that routine maintenance, repairs, and replacements cause
us to follow stricter emission requirements under the Clean
Air Act. Penalties of up to $25,000 per day of violation could
be imposed if the plant is found not to be in compliance.
We believe our plant is not in violation of the Act and that
these allegations are false.
