This hat, I knitted from the directions in the wonderful book Viking Patterns for Knitting by Elsebeth Lavold. Hervor is the name of the swan-maiden or valkyrie from the Eddic Poem Volundarkritha or Lay of Volund. I made a similar hat for our house spirit, Ghostie, which is shown next to the full sized Hervor.
