The times that I used my strengths revolved most around when I was involved in community theater. As I began meeting new people involved in theater for the first time, I began to realize how much I love talking to people and learning about them. I quickly made a new hobby out of meeting my cast mates and trying to hang out with them as much as possible both inside and outside of rehearsal. It’s safe to say that some of my closest friendships have come from my time in community theater. I think my positivity strength always came in handy to cheer people up and make connections at rehearsals, especially if people were having a bad day. On top of that, my woo and includer strengths helped me easily make new friends and help people feel included in the show if they didn’t have too many friends in the cast to begin with. I’ve had many castmates come up to me at the end of shows and thank me for being so friendly and supportive, which always makes me feel great about being an outgoing person. There have also been times where there has been a lot of drama within a show and people sometimes get upset at each other. While I have never been directly involved in any drama, I believe that my empathy strength has helped me understand both sides and help those involved to overcome any issues they might have.
I think there are a lot of ways I can apply these strengths to my future, especially regarding my college and work life. While work and college are very different environments from community theater, my interactions with others can remain mostly the same. I’ve already been able to make a lot of friends through college and work, which my strengths have certainly helped with. While my communicator strength wasn’t necessarily useful during my time in theater. I am sure it will come in handy in the future. My ability to communicate efficiently with teachers, peers and coworkers will make my life so much easier, especially regarding problem solving and making study groups. In fact, I already have a study group to some extent in each of my classes, which helps give me a lot of confidence about assignments and projects! Good communication skills are going to help me excel in college and in my future work life, no matter what paths I choose to take along the way.
