Q. Why won't my engine start?
A. This can be because of many things, on a piston vacuum engine your timing could be off, to fix this make sure you valve is set to a offset of 90 degrees, having it in sync or oppsite of your piston will cause the vacuum to lock the pistonm in place jamming it. Another fix for any engine is a flywheel, flywheeels get the engine over the stuters while it isn't being powered, if you already have a flywheel try making it heavier to help it get over the hump even better. A big problem you could be having is also friction, friction is caused by anymoving part rubbing on something else, to fix this use some kind of grease or oil to lubercate you engine, this can make it run twice as fast.
Q. Where do I buy the peices?
A. Legos can be purchased at nearly every store and online. Most of my engines are made from random pieces from random sets, but you can go and buy kits of assorted Legos that are not part of a set, I would recommend doing that, buying sets is much more expensive than just kits. Another possibility is that you have a Lego bin, if so then that works perfectly.
Q. Why does my Lego engine keep falling apart?
A. When making a Lego engine we must keep this in mind. Super gluing parts together can prevent this as long as you have super glue that won’t melt your legos (yes this does happen). The violent shaking of a Lego engine can also give you problems. Unbalanced pistons can cause your engine to shake so much it rips the whole engine to pieces, putting a counter weight on the shaft can help balance out the piston weight and make it run much smoother.
Q. What do you use to Lubercate your engine?
A. You can use many things, for short term vasoline and WD40 work, but leaving it on can make your legos deteriorate and become very fragil. For long term us many people use olive oil or some kind of food oil, it's much less harsh on your peices and can be left on your legos for extended periods of time without causing harm to your peices. the benifits of lubercating your engine is most less friction. Less friction will cause less damage to your legos and make your engine run much faster.
