STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL

Star Trek.

This brainchild of Gene Roddenberry, a 42-billion-dollar franchise spanning across generations and continents, literally through time and space, has captured the imaginations of both young and old since its first episode aired on NBC on September 9th, 1966. Before cell phones, before Apollo 11, before the birth of modern computing, the Star Trek universe dared to dream about the future of mankind.

Space.
The final frontier.
These are the voyages of the starship enterprise.
Mission: To explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Roddenberry didn’t only predict technological advancements (sometimes with eerie accuracy), he broke 1960 status quo by presenting 21st century humanity as homogenous, free from pre-existing bias, with no more need for standard currency and operating a worldwide military with a mission of peace and exploration. Generations after the release of Star Trek: The Original Series, we’re able to discern between which predictions were well-educated estimates, which were inevitable truths, and which predictions have remained within the realms of Sci-Fi.

Today, Roddenberry's creation has evolved into ten television series and thirteen movies, all branching off the Star Trek that he wrote in the 60's. The most recent series was released in early 2020, over half a decade after the show first aired. Thanks to the show’s loyalty to its original goal of exploring fundamental truths about morality and humanity, Star Trek’s cult following has grown with these changes, embracing the Star Trek universe as it has added new characters, new plots, and new settings.
