Introduction to the sport
Football is a team sport played with an oval ball where two teams compete to score by advancing the ball down the field and into the opposing team's end zone. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. The game of football is incredibly complex. Out of most of the physical contact sports, football is extremely fast-paced and explosive. The game being ran by "plays" rather than constant gameplay. It leaves room for planning and strategy. Football is like chess of the physical sports realm. It is the most popular sport in the United States.
American Football Basics
- Objective: Score by moving the ball into the opponent's end zone for a touchdown.
- Gameplay: The offensive team has four attempts (downs) to advance the ball at least 10 yards. If they succeed, they get another set of four downs. If they fail, the ball goes to the other team.
- Scoring: Touchdowns (6 points), extra points (kicking or rushing after a touchdown. 1 Point for kick, 2 for another score in endzone), field goals (kicking through the uprights, 3 points), and safeties (when the offense is caught in their own end zone, 2 points).
- Team Size: 11 players per team are on the field at a time, with a roster of 53 players.
- Field: 100-yard-long field, with end zones at each end.
