I decided to use a two column layout for this site so that my nav could be fixed on the side and not at the bottom or top of the main content, which would require scrolling to it to change tabs. I used two different fonts for headers and main content, a few main colors, black, white, red, and green for the link to the current page. I like the smooth dark look of the site overall with the links standing out in a dark red. I like the dark theme because it is easy on your eyes when you are reading and is not just boring black on white. It is also low-light and easy to look at before going to sleep.
