HTML
-
Start with normal HTML.
-
HTML is made of tags. For review:
-
<HTML> is the first tag, and </HTML> is the last in a web page.
-
<HEAD> is optional, but can include a <TITLE> tag that sets the title
of the document.
-
Both tags need to be closed, or followed by </HEAD> and </TITLE>,
at the end of their content.
-
Note that the entire <TITLE> is nested inside the <HEAD> tags.
-
<BODY> and </BODY> encase the text of the document.
-
Use View-Page Source to see the HTML behind the page. For example,
take a look at the source of this page.
-
And the formatting tags...
<H1> through <H6> define the size of text. The smaller
the number, the larger the text. Don't confuse this or your web page
may look really strange!
-
<B> will bold text and <I> italicises.
-
<UL> (unordered list) and <LI> will give you a bulleted list, where
<OL> (ordered list) and <LI> will give you a numbered list.
-
<LI> is nested in <UL> or <OL>
-
<UL> and <OL> must be closed. <LI> should be, but often
is not.
-
Again, see the source for an example.
-
Many new tags have evolved with new browsers.
-
You don't have to do this by hand, though you can. You should probably
use an editor. I make all of my slides in Netscape Composer, but
I'm pretty old school about it, too.
