Welcome to the Nano Materials Physics Group
Web Page. We are a member of the National Science Foundation supported Materials
World Network. Our research interests are targeted
towards understanding the electronic and spin properties of
semiconductor nanostructures, particularly nanowires and nanowire
heterostructures. We combine high-resolution optical spectroscopy with
spatial- and temporal-resolution in order to connect the structure of
the nanostructures with their physical properties. The group is a
collaboration between faculty Howard Jackson, Jan Yarrison-Rice and
Leigh Smith, PhD graduate students Samuel Linser and Iraj Abbasian
Shojaei and Undergraduate Physics students Tiange Liu and Gabrielle
Koknat.
Research in Electronic and Photonic Nanomaterials
The Nano Materials Physics Group works extensively on
electronic and optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures, and
how they can be used to make novel biological sensors. Our most recent
work has been on the properties of semiconductor nanostructures, such
as CdS nanowires, CdS nanosheets, GaAs/AlGaAs, GaAs/GaP, GaAsSb/InP,
InGaAs/InP nanowire heterostructures and InP nanowires.
Research Support
We have three grants for the study of nanowire heterostructures,
topological insulators and Weyl semimetals which
have large spin-orbit interactions and small gaps for basic physics and
sensor technologies
in the mid-infrared.
