Course Description
The course provides an introduction to the theory of interest, and may serve as a preparation for the Actuarial Exam FM/2.

The lectures will follow reference 1 (all 9 Chapters) above. Some examples/exercises are taken from Reference 3 above. Lecture slides will be available at Canvas.
Grading
Homework (50%), Midterm 1 (15%), Midterm 2 (15%), Final (20%).
Letter grades: A(90%), A-(85%), B+(80%), B(75%), B-(70%), C+(65%), C(60%), C-(55%).

- Week 2 (Jan 15): Chapter 1. 1.11, 1.12, 1.14, 1.15. MLK no class on Monday. HW1
- Week 3 (Jan 22): Chapter 2 Equations of value and yield rates. 2.2-2.7. HW2
- Week 4 (Jan 29 1): Chapter 3 Annuities (certain). 3.2-3.6
- Week 5 (Feb 5): Chapter 3. 3.7, 3.8, 3.12, 3.13. HW3
- Week 6 (Feb 12): Midterm 1 (Chap 1-3).
- Week 7 (Feb 19): Chapter 4 Annuities with different payment and conversion period. HW4
- Week 8 (Feb 26): Chapter 5 Loan repayment.
- Week 9 (Mar 4): Chapter 6 Bond. HW5
- Week 10 (Mar 11): Spring break.
- Week 11 (Mar 18): HW6
- Week 12 (Mar 25): Midterm 2 (Chap 4-6). Chapter 7 Stocks and financial markets.
