    Policies and Grading

  • ATTENDANCE
  • Students are expected to attend all classes.


  • CONDUCT
  • Students are expected to follow the Student Code of Conduct. Academic misconduct in this course will be dealt with in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.


  • ABSENCES
  • Except for emergencies, students are expected to inform their instructor if they cannot attend an exam. Makeup exams may be arranged at the discretion of the lecture instructor, if a student has a valid excuse for the absence. Only the most serious emergencies will be considered, in which case the instructor must be notified within 48 hrs by e-mail or phone by the student, friend or family, and appropriate documentation is supplied within a week (such as death certificate, hospital or doctor's affidavit, police report of an accident, etc.)


  • EXAMS
  • All Exams and Quizzes are closed-book. Formulas and constants will be provided as needed. No network and internet enabled devices, wireless phones, PDAs, etc., may be used. Calculators may be used only for numerical evaluations.


  • HOMEWORK
  • With the exception of the last homework (Assn. 9, due Monday, August 25), submit your homework to your recitation instructor on the due week.


  • GRADING
  • The course grades will be determined using the following approximate weights:

      1. Final Exam

    170 points

      2. 2 One-Hour Exams, 90 points each

    180 points

      3. 3 Quizzes, 30 point each

    90 points

      4. 9 Recitations, 10 points each (lowest score dropped)

    80 points

      5. 9 Homeworks, 10 points each (lowest score dropped)

    80 points

         TOTAL

    600 points (100%)


    Letter grades for the course will be assigned using the following approximate guidelines:

    100% - 85%
    A

    85% - 75%
    B

    75% - 60%
    C

    60% - 50%
    D

    50% - 00%
