Melvin G. Schaefer (Class of 1944) After graduating from the Oberlin School of Commerce and serving two years in the United States Navy, Mel owned and operated three very successful businesses. They were Schaefer Roofing, Schaefer & Ely Building Company and Willoughby Supply, Inc. He served as Mayor of Willoughby Hills for 16 years during which he worked untiringly for a community center and the improvement of the public park system. Mel is a member of the Lion's Club and serves as a layman for the Willoughby Hills Methodist Church. He has served as a Big Brother, on the Board of the Cleveland City Mission, and chaired the Willoughby Hills Community Days celebration.
