Professional Development

Through events like interview training, resume building, one-on-one mentorship, private company recruiting, and more, Kappa Theta Pi aims to prepare members for success in any technology-related career. We take pride in providing a means for students to develop into the leaders of the future.

Social Growth

The people you meet in Kappa Theta Pi will go on to be some of your closest friends throughout college and beyond. We host a variety a exclusive social events throughout the semester through which our members can bond.

Academic Support

Kappa Theta Pi brothers strive to foster academic growth and excellence for each other. We provide a supportive network filled with some of the brightest minds at the university that members can always rely on for help in classes and extracurricular activities.

Technical Advancement

Kappa Theta Pi provides members numerous opportunities to enhance their current technical skills, as well as learn new ones. We make it easy for our members to expand their expertise through technical workshops, participation in project teams, and many discussions about new and existing technologies in today's world.

Alumni Connections

Our alumni are spread out acss the world and lead work on many cutting-edge technologies. They've gone on to a plethora of companies - from industry giants like Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, and Google, to small startups, consulting firms, etc.

Alumni Network

The alumni network that stems from this chapter will quickly become its greatest asset, as these members will be excellent resources for the chapter to look into the the field and what life is like after college. These alumni would be ideal to give talks and advice to current members regarding professionalism and technological achievement in the wide world of tech.

FAQ

"Aren't fraternities only for male students?"

Historically the words "Fraternity/Sorority" have conveyed sex/gender-exclusive membership, that's not the case with groups who are "Co-Ed". KTP is a Co-Ed all-inclusive group, meaning any matriculating UC student is eligible for membership.

"What does 'Professional Fraternity' mean?"

There are many types of Greek-Org's such as Social, Service, Honors, Professional, Religious, etc. Professional means we have a strong emphasis on academics, professional development, etc. (KTP isn't a typical "party" fraternity).

"Will this group cost any money to join? Isn't greek life expensive to get involved with?"

KTP has no maximum or minimum dues that we have to charge; we make use of the university-provided funding as much as possible to ensure membership is open to all students.

"Isn't this just a tech-club? Why's KTP different from other groups on campus?"

KTP is built on a set of ideals that emphasize a close bond between students, as well as being built on the national brand of a fraternity. KTP has an extensive alumni network and traditions that distinguish us.

"How much of a time-commitment is it? Is it flexible around my Co-Op schedule?"

The expected time commitment as of now would be attending a bi-weekly meeting and a few pillar-themed events in a given month. Our membership system will absolutely be able to flex around Co-Op!

"I worry this will start off not-like a typical Frat, but become one over time."

KTP's values as a professional group would actively go against any inclinition from members to start treating the group differently. There are already many, many social frats on campus; this group insn't made for that niche.

"Does the group have an age limit? Do I have to be a full-time/undergraduate student?"

KTP does not have a maximum age limit. We encourage any student to seek membership! You don't have to be full-time, we encourage part-time/online students to also look into membership!

"Will there be a house/lodging that we have to live in to maintain membership?"

Not at all! Any kind of "frat-house" doesn't line up with the ideals of this group, so that isn't something that would be any inherent part of membership.

The Origins

Kappa Theta Pi was founded at the University of Michigan in 2012, and has spread to 8 colleges and universities across the country.

The Alpha chapter in Michigan has a website that explains a lot more about their operations, which is what UC's chapter will be heavily based on.

KTP at Other Schools

KTP chapters have been formed at many other large schools such as Univ. of Maryland, Univ. N. Carolina, and Univ. of Pittsburgh. Many of these chapters have their own websites that go into detail about how they operate.

Cincinnati chapter

The student-group at UC will be going through the colonization process to start our chapter during the Spring 2022 semester. This is when we will charter with the university, write our constitution, and officially register as a student organization.

We will be holding a few Online Information-Sessions over the fall 2021 semester! This is where we give a presentation about the group and give you the chance to ask any questions you may have. These are happening on a non-regular basis in an attempt to try to host them at different days/times during the week so more people can join! When days are decided upon, we will post in the Discord server and on Instagram.

Since we are not yet a registered organization, we do not have a constitution made to charter with the university. However we have made a similar establishing-document that outlines our beliefs as a group and defines our purpose on campus. That document can be found in PDF form HERE.
