Pesquet’s Parrot
Psittrichas fulgidus
Also called the Vulturine Parrot because of its black plumage and
vulture-like appearance, this is one of the most endangered birds of New
Guinea. It is hunted for its feathers, but the worst threat is
destruction of the island’s mountain forests, leaving it without shelter
or the fruits on which it feeds.
Fact file:
Habitat: Mountain rain forest
Diet: Soft fruits such as figs, also blossoms and nectar
Note: Jumps between braches instead of climbing as other parrots do
