Getting Poseidon
-
Go to http://www.gentleware.com/
and choose Download Poseidon CE.
-
When the download has finished, unzip it. You can start it with the
<<poseidon root>>/bin/StartPosiedon.bat file on Windows.
-
The first time you run it, it will prompt you to register for a key.
Registration is free, so you might as well go ahead and do it.
-
You can also just add it as a component in Forte'/NetBeans. To do
so, follow
the directions on Gentleware's site.
-
I am using NetBeans 3.3 at home. I found the installation instructions
to be a little different...
-
First, choose Tools-Options. Then, click on the icon next to System.
You will see a number of options appear. Choose Modules. Right
click, and select Add Module. Then, find poseidon.jar in the lib
directory under the installation directory. Select that and follow
the prompts. You will need to select the key as well when that screen
appears.
-
(Updated 4/16/03: added memory comment.) Installing Poseidon as a
NetBeans/Forte' component is convenient,
but does consume more memory resources than simply running Forte'.
When you do this, you get an additional tab, called "Modeling", on the
menu bar. Choose that and, viola! Posiedon is active.
S03 Update: Getting and Using
Argo
Argo's URL: http://argouml.tigris.org/.
-
Contains download link, user manual, web start, and more.
-
If you want to download Argo the traditional way...
-
Click on the link to download, save in a place you will remember.
-
Unzip the download.
-
Click on argouml.jar to start.
-
There is an alternative...
-
Java Web Start is a product from Sun that allows you to run a Java application
over the internet, without installing it on your local machine.
-
Similar to an Applet, but a lot smoother.
-
A very hands-off, automated approach.
-
You have to have Java Web Start installed on your computer, but that is
easy.
