Malcolm P. Annis

Geologist, Arlington Native

 

Malcolm P. Annis, 62, a geologist who was an Arlington native and a 1957 graduate of Washington-Lee High School, died March 30 in Alexandria in the Dawes House assisted-living facility, where he had been treated since 2000.

He was a geology graduate of Dickinson College in Pennsylvania and received a master's degree in geology from the University of California at Riverside and a geology doctorate from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Annis worked for the U.S. Reclamation Bureau in Arizona, taught at a university in Denmark and at the University of Cincinnati, was a high school math and science teacher in Vermont and was a bus driver in New Hampshire. He returned to Arlington in 1994.

His marriage to Elaine Annis ended in divorce.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Judy, of Arlington; his mother, Pauline Annis of Alexandria; a brother, E. Gardner Annis of Manassas; and a sister, Priscilla Annis Hess of Arlington.
