Understanding the Scientific Method
by Experimenting with Paper Towels

The students will explore the scientific method by creating an experiment to test different brands of paper towels. An example hypothesis might be: The most expensive paper towel absorbs the most water. The presentation will include developing a hypothesis, creating an experiment to test the hypothesis, carrying out the experiment, analyzing the data, and making conclusions based on the results of the experiment. Also included in the presentation will be the importance of keeping accurate records, how and why an experiment might be "blinded", and the reasons for having a properly controlled experiment.
