Active Galaxies typically have enormous Gamma-ray and X-ray fluxes, something normal galaxies made up of stars and gas do NOT show.
And then of course, there are those Active Galaxies which emit strongly in the Radio (not all, and the above example of an Active Galaxy does not..).
