Along the direction of the Constellation Sagittarius, there are
huge radio plumes, suggesting enormous energy. This region is called
Sagittarius A.
What is at the center of this disk??
At the very center of our galaxy, something very strange is occurring.
Its been difficult to determine *what* because we can not see with
optical light (too much dust extinction). However, Radio Light
shows some dramatic pictures.
As we probe deeper into the depths of the center of our galaxy, we
come across a "disk" or ring. This image is taken at
millimeter wavelengths to see the molecular emission coming from the
molecules in the disk. It has a radius of just 20 or so light years
and is called the circum-nuclear disk.
