Three things are happening.  First you see the phases of the moon, as the moon goes around the Earth and the half of the moon we see goes from nighttime to daytime back to nighttime.  The roughly circular wobble is called libration. This happens because the moon is not in perfect synchronous rotation.  Finally, the size of the moon appears to change as the moon moves from perigee (near) to apogee (far).
