We can maybe estimate this Given the anticipated improvement in both telescopes and digital electronics applied to SETI, what is the time scale for making such a discovery? Moore's Law shows that the density of transistors on commercially available chips doubles every 18 months. Such a law can be applied to the rate increase for which simultaneous channels can be scanned in the radio. |

Rate we are searching new star systems. This figure shows the rate at which new star systems will be searched, if we assume Moore's law for the continued advancement of computer and radio technology in the future. |

When we will detect SETI? We do not know how many N: intelligent, communicating civilizations are out there (recall our estimate from the Drake Equation). But the more there are out there, the sooner we will find them. Bottom line: if they are there, we will find them. Its just a matter of time. |
