Here is my Bio-Sketch.


Dr. Kenneth L. Ghee was born in Harlem, New York in 1956 and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. In 1974 he earned an academic scholarship to Boston University and in 1978 his B.A. degree in Psychology. He went on to earn the Masters degree in Social Psychology at the University of Houston and at the age of 27 he completed his Ph.D. in Health & Social Psychology, also at the University of Houston in 1983.

Dr. Ghee joined the faculty at the University of Cincinnati, College of Arts & Sciences, in 1985 as a Health and Social Psychologist with joint appointments in the Departments of Psychology and Internal Medicine. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Psychology. His research interests include: psycho-social analysis of cultural mythology; and developing effective methods for enhancing cultural identity and academic achievement in young African Americans.



In 1985, Dr. Ghee founded the RAAMUS (Responsible African-American Men United in Spirit) Network to promote cultural identity development and academic achievement nationwide. His journal publications include "The History, Ideology, and Behavior of Positive Black Men: Yesterday and Today"; and "Enhancing Educational Achievement through Cultural Awareness in Young Black Males". His book chapters include; "Edu-culture: An Innovative Strategy for Promoting Identity and Scholarship in Young African American males"; and "The RAAMUS Academy: Evaluation of an Edu-Cultural Intervention for young African American males".

In 1990 through 1993, Dr. Ghee directed the RAAMUS Academy youth program for ages 9 - 14. The RAAMUS Academy was an after-school cultural awareness and academic achievement program. He has consulted to "youth empowerment" and "Rites of Passage" programs in numerous cities nationwide. Dr. Ghee received the 1991 Award of Excellence from UC Ethnic Programs for his dedication and service to youth education. He also received the "Emphasis on Diversity Award" and the "Outstanding Faculty Award" from UC Student Organizations. In 1992, Dr. Ghee was awarded the Prestigious All University George Barbour Award for his outstanding teaching and student relations at the University of Cincinnati.



Dr. Ghee is recognized as a dynamic lecturer and arguably one of the most popular professors at UC. He teaches over 1000 students each year in large Introductory Psychology classes averaging 240 students each, as well as upperclass small group undergraduate and graduate seminars with about 25 students each. These students are in addition to the hundreds more he reaches and teaches through his community action work.  In 1999 he was featured in the UC Admissions brochure, in an article entitled "Your Favorite Professor". In 2001 he received the "Just Community Award" for his dedication and work promoting diversity and racial equality at the University of Cincinnati.


In addition to his academic work, Dr. Ghee is also a Motivational Speaker, Drum Poet and Rapologist. Over the past 10 years, Dr. Ghee has used his creative talents to compliment his academic work in order to more effectively reach and teach a wide range of students ranging from elementary school to college and beyond. In the community Dr. Ghee's motivational speeches include dynamic drum poetry and rapology about the importance of cultural identity and academic achievement. Dr. Ghee's favorite statement to adults and youth everywhere is"Develop your Mind, Like a Weapon Divine!"


In 1996, Dr. Ghee developed and produced the two time award winning "Fantastic Adventures of Amen Ra" still-life cartoon series which airs periodically on local access cable television in Cincinnati. Amen Ra is a mythological African American super hero that fights racism and ignorance. This innovative program is just one of many of Dr. Ghee's creative methods for reaching and teaching youth to excel culturally and academically. The cartoon has won television awards from the Cincinnati Blue Chip 1998 Cable Television Access Awards and the 1997 Hometown Video Festival Awards.
