Patient Name: Name deleted
Patient remains in the intensive care unit at the hospital.
The team was met by the patient’s wife who showed us the home. Home was a two bedroom, two-story unit located on a residential street consisting of similar units. Each home had small front yard (approximately 20 feet by ten feet) and a slightly larger backyard (approximately 20 feet by 30 feet). A chain link fence surrounded both yards of patient’s home approximately 4 feet high. Yard was somewhat over grown, except for a small vegetable garden in the back. Wife explained that the overgrowth was a direct result of her husband’s absence as she suffered from severe arthritis and was unable to take care of much yard work herself. Overall, the exterior appeared to be well kept and free from major, noticeable structural problems. Rain gutters were in need of cleaning and showed some signs of flooding due to clogging. Yard and entire neighborhood were still reasonably wet from recent rainfall. Water appeared to be pooling in lower areas of the yard. Inside, home was somewhat damp. Wife explained that it was kept this way to help control her husband’s mild asthma and pointed the team to a large humidifier in the corner of the living room. Humidifier appeared clean and free from mold or other contamination. Samples were taken for analysis. Some mold spores were noticed deposited along one wall of the upstairs bathroom. This was sampled and pointed out to the patient’s wife. Other rooms appeared free from any other contamination or potential sources of unusual growth. Samples were taken from other rooms of the house, including the attic where the patient had been cleaning two days prior to falling ill.
