Western Blot Any standard Western blotting protocol can be used. Antibodies and samples can be generated from anything that is reaily available to the instructors. Students were asked to select four candidate organisms for us to check against serum from one outbreak patient. Positive and negative samples were labelled appropriately relative to the students' design and, for closely related organisms, false positives were sometimes included. Because our time with the students was very limited, we ran SDS gels and tranferred them prior to class time and the students probed their own blots. If more time is available, students can run and transfer their own blots. |
