Any word if the fragments from his 1st or 17th symphonies can or will be recorded? Outside of those, the only remaining symphonies missing from my collection are the 10th and the 16th.
It will be a sad day when it is all recorded.. each new release has been a delight to explore not only the first time, but the manner in which the music reveals new insights with each successive listening experience.

Look forward to hearing from others who have been affected by this music in a similar vein.

By the way : It's worthwhile looking for Doratis version of the 7:th (Swedish Society Discofil SCD 1002 (1994))

comments: Hello again. I don't have much time to scan the fabulous number of things you have here, including those you've added. This field, by the way, doesn't word-wrap!

I wonder if you'd consider altering the type face of the pages. It's hard to read on the screen, and the Italics are unhappy; they bump into the next Roman character every time. The Italics themselves are also extremely hard to read, especially in a foreign language which some will not know. But I know how much trouble this may be to change.

At some point in the bibliography I think you have the Swedish Äeldste in-stead of the correct spelling.

But if People find out about this page, they are already familiar with Petterssons music. I assume, that this is not a way to interest more peoples for these kind of pearls far away from the classical mainstream. I´m organist, and occasionally in thechurch in Stockholm where Allan Petterssons tomb is. It´s in thesouthern part of Stockholm, "Södermalm" where Allan grew up, and the church is called Högalidskyrkan. Well, Allans music has an extraordinary quality, and I´m convinced that his work will live further on.

The 7:th symphony was performed last Friday in Stockholm with conductor Petter Sundkvist and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. It was dynamic and fast, and I liked it. It had spirit. Much more so than the classical interpretation by Antal Dorati in the late 60's. I am reading Laila Barkefors' book right now (Gallret och stjärnan). It has lots of facts. :-) More later... /Fred

For me AP is THE musical discovery of the last 20 years and I really do not understand why I had to wait such a long time. Claus M. Mueller

Having discovered this music over the last two years or so, I can only say that what we have here is one of the most amazing symphonicists of all time. Language quite fails! PS. Maybe the record review system might take some improved/expansion?

comments: Great to find a Pettersson page on the Net! I think a lot of thanks are due CPO for their good recordings and exposure, but I'm wary about Naxos choosing to do any Pettersson. Considering their method of poorly-paid 'rehearse-record' sessions in making symphonic recordings I doubt if the results would be an improvement upon CPO's achievements. The 13th Symphony alone just teems with detail and the BBCScots + Alun Francis do a mighty fine job ... OK, I admit it, it's one of my very favourite CDs!

comments: Dear Pettersson's music lovers I'm very happy to join the little (?) community of Pettersson's music lovers. I'm living in Paris, and as you may imagine, I don't know anybody who has even heard about his music. So, as soon as I've been connected to Internet, I've tried to connect a web site about Pettersson, and I've found that excellent AP Page. This message is to let you how pleased I'am to find fellow music-lovers. It seems that I am the first french to sign the Guest Book. I'm wondering if I must be proud of being the first, or if I must be ashamed that no french has visited this site yet. In France, Pettersson is quite unknown. Here, critics, authors, musical society in general don't have any respect for composers like Pettersson. Only composers like Stravinsky, Shoenberg, Boulez are honoured (no doubt nevertheless that they are great composers). They are our new Academism. Pettersson, who speak whith his heart, who tell stories about love and loneliness, humanity, power and poverty, can't be understood yet. Nothing has changed since Pettersson wrote to Leif Aare (quoted in CPO 999085-2, Symph 8) : "Development does not occur as a result of the hallowed festivals of the Internationale Gesellschaft für Neue Musik but through the souls of simple people. (...) It is the snob who talks about the people and the music of our times. Today's humanity is a small child who is starving somewhere on this planet right now, and today's music is the crying of this child (...). How did I discovered Pettersson : thanks to Arte, the franco-german channel. Germany is more broaded minded than France... Congratulations for this AP Page, and please excuse my english, Best whishes

comments: Dear Mr. Cauthen, What an exciting site you have! I first found the Internationale A.P. Gesellschaft, which led me here. I was surprised to find so much material about the music and the man to be available. Most of it, unfortunately for my enthusiasm, is not in English. I've written to Herr Brylka and offered to do whatever I can to provide an English-language version of his yearbooks, perhaps on a US mirror site that I may be able to provide. Herr Brylka also mentioned that there was some hope of merging your site and his. The real barriers are language and copyright, yes? Not many here read Swedish and, while it is probably some kind of sin in someone's book somewhere, my second language is not German. (Oddly, my first second language *was* German... until the age of six - and I have quite forgotten it all in the interveaning 42 years!) I believe there are translation programs available now which may help in rapidly converting the Swedish and German articles that are not under copyright protection (or for which copyright releases can be gotten) into English. The translations would undoubtedly have to be proofed and edited before being put up on the web. I'm going to run off now and look at what's avaiable in terms of translation software. Yours and Herr Brylka's sites have been the most pleasant finds on the Web for me! Thank you for all the time and effort you have put in to it. Pettersson's music means as much to me now as Beethoven's did when I was a young man, which was a very great deal, and I would like to do something concrete to make his music more widely available. Best regards, Thom Gandet TGandet@AZStarNet.com Tucson, AZ USA

More specific, his studies in Paris 19511952 and I am interested in all your information about his teacher, René Leibowitz. Have you listened to or played Allan Pettersson´s early compositions? If not, please do!
