Mechanical Vibrations I: Free Response

Summary

This lecture starts the treatment of a horizontal mass-spring system with mass $m>0$ and spring constant $k>0$: $$ m \frac{\mathrm{d}^{2} x}{\mathrm{~d} t^{2}}+\delta \frac{\mathrm{d} x}{\mathrm{~d} t}+k x=f(t), $$ where the damping parameter $\delta\geq 0$ may or may not be zero. We start with the free response: $f(t)\equiv 0$.
