Hidden Fields
-
In the previous example, we needed the bearcat ID to open the file.
We passed it through the URL.
<br><a href =
\"http://oz.uc.edu/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/jonesbr/whatIsaid.pl?bearcatID=$bearcatID\">Now
see what I said!</a>
-
This is perfectly legal, but we are passing it through GET. GET has
its limitations. What are they?
-
There's another way to pass the bearcat ID between forms. We can
dynamically append it by using cookies.
-
But there is still another way: hidden fields.
-
Hidden fields are just like any other FORM element, but they are not displayed
on the HTML page.
-
You can view them via View-Source on the browser.
-
This is an easy way to pass data between forms, and to your Perl script.
-
Just use this syntax:
<input type = "hidden" name = "bearcatID" value = "jonesbr">
Same example, but
with hidden fields.
hwritetofile.pl Source
whatIsaid.pl does not change.
But wait a second...
