Dr. Joseph H. Nevin
Dr. Nevin received his B.S.E.E. degree in 1964 from the University of
Cincinnati with his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees being earned from the same
institution in 1966 and 1974, respectively. He joined the faculty as
an instructor in 1967 and is currently a Professor of Electrical and
Computer Engineering and an Associate Department Head for Electrical
Engineering.

Research Interests
Dr. Nevin's research activity is directed toward the development of
integrated circuit sensors along with the analog circuits necessary
for processing sensor signals. He is Associate Director for the Center
for Microelectronic Sensors and Microstructures, where he is closely
involved with colleagues in new sensor development and
application. Central to his recent research has been the development
of humidity sensors suitable for medical applications. The circuits
used to interface some of these sensors have been implemented in the
MOS form with extensive use of switched capacitor filters for signal
processing. Novel design automation techniques are under development
to aid in the configuration of such circuits. Specifically, his
research group has developed expert systems targeted toward the design
of practical analog integrated circuits. The design automation
supports the goals of an overall program of IC research with a central
theme of sensors and the processing signals from sensors.
Dr. Nevin has been awarded several outstanding teaching awards
including the Engineering Tribunal Award for Outstanding Teaching as
well as the Eta Kappa Nu Outstanding Instructor Award. He has
published widely in the areas of electronic materials and devices as
well as circuit design. He is a member of IEEE, Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa
Nu and Sigma Xi.

Dr. Nevin is the
director of the
Electronic Systems Lab.
