ABSTRACT

This article presents 15 myths that still persist regarding adolescent suicide.  Such myths could undermine the effectiveness of suicide prevention programs.  In attempting to reduce suicide among adolescents, school professionals must possess accurate information.  Remaining aware of and refuting the myths of adolescent suicide will assist in this process.  All school staff must feel they have a responsibility to play in preventing suicide in order for an effective and comprehensive school suicide prevention program to take effect.  Journal of School Health. 1999;69(4):159-161.
