Dr.
Charles H. Behre Jr., professor emeritus of geology
at Columbia University and founding president of Behre,
Dolbear & Company, a mining consultant concern,
died Tuesday at the Emerson (N.J.) Convalescent Center. He was 89 years old and
lived in Leonia, N.J. Dr. Behre retired in 1971 from Behre, Dolbear, which he founded
in 1948. He began teaching at Lehigh University in 1921 and later was at the
University of Cincinnati and Northwestern University before joining Columbia,
where he retired in 1964. He was an alumnus of the University of Chicago, where
he also earned a Ph.D., in 1925.
