Virtual Tour & Job Shadowing

An Online Professional Development Course for Ohio Educators

Welcome!

Welcome to the “virtual tour” of business and the economy in Ohio. This program is designed and offered as a professional development course for Ohio educators.  In the comfort of your classroom or home, on your own time, you can explore the Ohio economy, learn about Ohio industries and products, and find ways to help your students better understand the economy where they live and may someday find a career.  The course is conducted by the Economics Center for Education & Research, College of Business, University of Cincinnati.

The course has three parts.  Part I offer one quarter hour* of graduate or undergraduate credit.  Parts II and III offer one to three quarter hours of credit.*  Each quarter hour of credit is designed to take approximately ten clock hours to complete.  Credit registration can be for one, two, or all three parts of the course.  Part I is required to begin the course.  You can earn up to seven hours, total credit.  For details about the course credit, click here.

The overall course goal can be stated very simply.  We want you to know more about and better understand the issues affecting the economy of Ohio and Ohio business firms.  For more details about the course goals, click here.  The instructor for the course will communicate directly with each teacher.  For more information about the instructor, click here.

Cost:  Educators pay just $199 per credit hour for the course (2007-2008).  Full University of Cincinnati graduate tuition for 2007-2008 is $404 per quarter hour of credit.  We provide a scholarship of $205 per credit hour, so your cost is reduced to $199 per credit hour (quarter hours).   NOTE:  3 quarter hours equal 2 semester hours.  For more details about credit and payment, click here.

Glossary of terms

A NOTE ABOUT GRADUATE CREDIT HOURS: A "quarter hour" is one credit hour in a "quarter system."  Colleges and universities use either "quarter" or "semester" hours.  Three quarter hours is equal to two semester hours.  If your professional development requirements is six semester hours, you can satisfy that requirement with nine quarter hours.  Two semester hours or three quarter hours require approximately the same amount of class or project time.
