 Corporate Industrial Hygiene Practice

organization and activities of Industrial Hygiene in the corporate health & safety program.

 Ergonomics

Pragmatic overview plus intensive review of back and upper extremity.

 Clinical Occupational Medicine

Review of occupational toxicology according to specific industrial toxicants and presentations on organ systems


Clinical Toxicology

Specific occupational toxicology including lungs, liver, hematopoietic system, kidney, nervous system, and reproductive system.

Dermatology

Approach to skin problems in industry, contact dermatitis (including diagnostic aids), occupational skin cancer, photosensitivity, hazards from nonionizing radiation (including Lasers), prevention of occupational skin diseases.

Orthopedics

Practical exercises in the diagnosis, examination and treatment of back and extremity problems, how to use the orthopedic specialist, disability evaluation, functional capacity assessments.

Pulmonary Function Testing

The application of pulmonary function testing in industry with practical demonstration and exercises, disability evaluation, choice of equipment.

Radiology

Interpretation of chest X-rays for the pneumonoconiosis, neuroradiology of the spine.

Cardiology

Risk of hiring the cardiac, returning the post-coronary employee to work, disability evaluation, interpretation of EKG's.

Physical Medicine

Demonstration of concepts and procedures used for occupational medicine.

Audiology

Principles of audiometry, interpretation of audiograms, hearing conservation.

Practice of Occupational Medicine

The physical examination in industry, ethics, biologic and medical monitoring, independent medical evaluations, legal considerations, percent permanent partial impairment examinations, specific preventive programs.

Ophthalmology

Treatment of foreign bodies, corneal burns, screening examinations, examination of the eye.

Pulmonary

Comprehensive review of occupational lung disease.

Toxicology

Animal

What studies to do, factors affecting toxicity, interpretation of toxicologic data, legal requirements, threshold limit values.

Human

Problem recognition, disease manifestation and major diagnostic points, principles of prevention, medical surveillance, treatment.

Epidemiology

Application of epidemiological concepts in occupational medicine with examples and exercises.

Administration/Leadership

Development and operation of a corporate medical department, relationships with management, responsibilities of the medical department, disability management, leadership training, ADA.

Regulations

Reading on OSHA standard; a review of prevailing legislation affecting Occupational Medical practice; drug testing.


There will be lectures and demonstrations from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. daily and on one evening each week.

The Training Course is open to all physicians, physician assistants, adult nurse practitioners and occupational health nurses.
