 Rebecca Danard is a doctoral candidate in clarinet performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). She obtained undergraduate degrees in Clarinet Performance and Ecology & Evolution from the University of Western Ontario, a Graduate Certificate in Orchestra Studies from Wayne State University (Detroit) and a Master’s degree from CCM. In 2007, she made her debut performance with the Ottawa Chamberfest in two concerts affiliated with the conference “Schoenberg’s Chamber Music, Schoenberg’s World” at Carleton University. She has been a resident artist at the Banff Centre and has participated in the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy. Rebecca has performed with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, the Dearborn Symphony, the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras at Western and Wayne State and was featured on the CBC Radio programme Artscape.
Because of her passion for new music, Rebecca has been invited to perform at the CCM festival Music08, the 2008 MidWest Composers Symposium, and the Bang on a Can Summer Festival. She recently founded Musica Nova Ottawa, and ensemble dedicated to performing new music from the nation's capital and beyond. Also an enthusiastic teacher, Rebecca is on faculty at the Preparatory Department at CCM and coaches for the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble and the Ohio Music Educators Association Orchestra. As part of her doctoral research, she has commissioned twelve pedagogical pieces featuring extended techniques for the clarinet from composers across Canada. In 2008 she premiered these pieces at the Chamberfest and at the 12:30 Friday concert series at UWO. She also presented a lecture recital about this project at the Canadian University Music Society Conference in May 2009. Uncoming events include a debut performance with the Ottawa Jazz Festival and a return to Chamberfest.
